about
Owen Temple and I sat down that day to write a song called, “Gold Standard”. Rarely do we as songwriters start with the title, but this one was different. We worked backwards. We told the story of two people who have loved each other their whole lives, who went through rough and rocky patches along the way, but found their way back to each other in the end. The kind of love we all measure our own against….the Gold Standard. We wanted it to feel like it could have been recorded by George and Tammy or Loretta and Conway, back in the day.
lyrics
Golden bands on their hands in the picture
Fifty years, smiles and tears, they’re a fixture
In the town and on the street
Every couple they meet
Says look at them, her and him
The Gold Standard
Was a time, you were mine, we were lovers
Drifted apart, broken hearts, there were others
But in the end right on through
My mind runs back to you
Cause for me, you’ll always be
The Gold Standard
The real deal
And I love you still
Strong enough, aren’t we darling
It lasts and it’s pure
When you hold it you’re sure
The measure, the treasure
The Gold Standard
Lost and found all around we meandered
The talk of town, put us down, they lie and slander
But together again
They lose and we win
None better, together
The Gold Standard
The real deal
And I love you still
Strong enough, aren’t we darling
It lasts and it’s pure
When you hold it you’re sure
The measure, the treasure
The Gold Standard
Yeah the real deal
And I love you still
My measure, my treasure
My Gold Standard
